I am a wife, mom and grandma (Memaw) who has always been pretty active and fit. But at the end of my high school years, I started my struggle with an eating disorder that lasted nearly 17 years and almost took my life. I had to learn to have a healthy relationship with food and exercise.
After being in recovery for several years, I got back into fitness, but in a healthy way. I studied it and also hired a trainer to help me learn more and keep me accountable. Even though I was over 50 years old, I didn't feel it! I was feeling great! I was able to do many things with my kids and mostly keep up.
But at 54 years of age, my hip started really bothering me and I just wasn't able to do much exercise without pain. I ended up gaining a lot of weight. Almost two years later I had a hip replacement, but still didn't do much exercise. I knew I didn't feel my best, but it wasn't until I saw the picture of myself on the left that I knew I needed to do something and start exercising and eating better again! It was the wakeup call I needed! (These pictures are 3.5 months apart)
It was hard to get back into the habit and routine of exercising because my body was older and I was dealing with some arthritis and pain from old injuries. I also discovered that some foods just don't serve the body well and can cause inflammation and bloating. After getting back to a healthy meal plan and exercise, I got rid of the weight and felt so much better! And by keeping moving, it helps my arthritis pain. It was then that I decided to help others feel their best and live their best life, and so I earned my Personal Training Certification. It's never too late to start taking better care of yourself! YOU DESERVE IT! It's how our bodies are designed.
